The UNDP project, financed by the Government of Canada, provides the Haitian National Police with adequate facilities and equipment to carry out police functions crucial to the development of the Caribbean country. This includes refurbishing 14 police stations and supplying trucks, motorcycles, information technology equipment and furniture to 21 police stations.
UNDP have tasked UNOPS, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), to undertake refurbishment and procurement activities.
The project has become a model for renovating police stations in Haiti, to be replicated elsewhere in the country as part of UNDP’s 2006 Haitian National Police reform plan. The plan also includes construction of a new Inspectorate General Headquarters building, installation of essential databases and the completion of a nation-wide police radio communication system.
