The government wants to build a modern capital

The Haitian government is considering building a new Port-au-Prince as part of the reconstruction plan. The new capital will have great business districts, parks, hotel chains and the headquarters of several public bodies. 15,000 houses to be built in Haiti

The Canadian Red Cross announces the upcoming construction of 15,000 houses in Haiti to house the victims of January 12.

The small houses will cost $4,000 Canadian Dollar each. Construction will start in Jacmel and in Leogane, Haiti. The materials to build the houses will be imported from Canada, and will be made of wood and sheet metal.

The houses are expected to withstand the weather.

Two new bridges for Gonaives

Haiti: The Haitian government and the EU have signed an agreement on Friday, May 28, 2010 to start construction on two bridges in the Gonaives region. The two bridges will connect Gonaives to Mapou and Guadin, Haiti. The bridges will cost 3.4 million Euro, and will be part of the rehabilitation program of Gonaives.

The bridges will be completed in 2011, and will help in reducing flood risk in the region.

Miss Haiti 2010

Sarodj Bertin, a 24 year old lawyer was crowned the new Miss Haiti 2010. She is expected to compete at the Miss Universe 2010 and Miss World 2010 beauty pageant.

This is the first time Haiti is sending a delegate to the Miss Universe pageant in 24 years.

Brazil First Major Contributor to Haiti Reconstruction Fund

Brazil became the first contributor to a reconstruction fund established by the UN and the Haitian government to help monitor the reconstruction money. On Tuesday Brazil paid $55 million into the World Bank-supervised fund to rebuild Haiti after the devastating earthquake in January 12, 2010.
